Units and Measurements Question Paper Class 11 Physics CBSE Board Exam

Here’s a well-structured Class 11 Physics Question Paper on Units and Measurements, designed according to the CBSE Board Exam pattern. It includes MCQs, short answer questions, and long answer questions with proper marks distribution.

Class 11 Physics – Units and Measurements

Maximum Marks: 35

Time: 1.5 Hours

Section A (1 Mark Each) – Very Short Answer Questions

(Answer in one word or one sentence.)

  1. Define the term dimension of a physical quantity.
  2. What are the SI base units for mass, length, and time?
  3. How many significant figures are in 0.00456 m?
  4. Convert 1 fermi into meters.
  5. Name any two fundamental quantities in the SI system.

Section B (2 Marks Each) – Short Answer Questions

(Answer in about 30-40 words.)
6. State the principle of homogeneity of dimensions.
7. What is absolute error? How is it different from relative error?
8. Find the dimensional formula of force using basic SI units.
9. Write any two limitations of dimensional analysis.
10. Convert 1 light year into meters (Given: 1 year = 3.15×107 sec, speed of light = 3×108).

Section C (3 Marks Each) – Application-Based Questions

(Answer in about 50-60 words.)
11. A student measures the length of a rod as 3.54 m and 3.55 m in two trials. The actual length is 3.56 m. Calculate the absolute error, relative error, and percentage error.
12. Derive the dimensional formula of Work and verify its correctness using dimensional analysis.
13. The volume of a sphere is given by V=4/3πr3. Check whether the formula is dimensionally correct.

Section D (5 Marks Each) – Long Answer Questions

(Answer in about 80-100 words.)
14. A new system of units is defined, where mass (M), length (L), and time (T) are replaced by new units A, B, and C, respectively. If the dimensional formula of force remains [M L T⁻²], express it in terms of the new units A, B, and C.
15. The period of a simple pendulum is given by T=2π√(l/g)

Use dimensional analysis to check the correctness of this equation.

This question paper tests conceptual understanding, application of dimensional analysis, and numerical problem-solving while covering all aspects of Units and Measurements for CBSE Class 11 Physics.
